THE WEST INDIAN DAY PARADE OF 2011.

So for the second year in a row I had thought to cover the West Indian Day Parade of 2011. It is an event that I do enjoy going to every year. The event is held every Labor Day holiday weekend, and I guess you can say that it’s one of the major events leading to the end of the summer season.

The weather for yesterday’s event was somewhat not the perfect day, for at one point the rain did come by and there was a slight downpour of rain. But it was nothing more than just a passing shower. Lots of people were at the event along with crowds of people of West Indian culture that came to celebrate the day.

Lots of parade floats, good food and West Indian music did fill the event and made it an enjoyable moment for those that were there. Below are some of my photos of the event.

The photo above was taken across the street from the Brooklyn Museum located on eastern parkway in Brooklyn, New York City. It gives you somewhat of an idea of the crowd that was at the event.

A close up photo of one of the many party goers on top of one of the many trucks that were at the event.

This photo above gives you an idea of the truck that they was on.

One of the many floats passing by during the event.

And of course… What’s a parade without people enjoying the event and many others in colorful costumes.

Now the next photo below has a funny story to it.

It seems that a few of the female costumed party goes jokingly rushed up to and surrounded a NYPD police officer (that you can’t see within the photo…) And let’s just say that they put him in a “compromising position.” Another NYPD police officer (seen above) rushed up to the small crowed but not to help the other officer, but only to take an embarrassing photo of him. And then walk away afterwards.

Needless to say that everyone did get a good laugh out of that moment.

And this concludes my photography post of the West Indian Day Parade of 2011. If you had missed the event, may this be the next way to have seen it.
